Great article.  I agree with the article.  I believe that 1 in 3 businesses that have paid for SEO have been ripped off by a person who simply didn’t know what they were doing. 

To avoid this, I work in real testimonials and give references in to other local businesses so that they can call other clients directly.

Interesting approach Jerry.  I like the idea of offering the list of pg1 keywords as an optin.  Talk about a way to grab qualified leads!  

I would hope that he stays on.  There’s an advantage to fighting against the same person as they become predictable.   If someone else becomes head of the spam team,  it could mean a new direction that may prove additionally troublesome or unpredictable. Not that Matt Cutts hasn’t been troublesome for SEOs as is.

Here’s a popular plugin: Wp Stat Press.  I’ve used it and it gives you basic stats.  That doesn’t report back to a central platform. 

Additionally,  I use bitly.com for additional link tracking. 

I’ve heard of some SEMEASY users using piwik also, but i don’t have experience with it.
