Cool beans, I’m a local client guy myself.
Yeah, the dynamic shortcodes will mess with you. Also, in case you aren’t, make sure you’re using posts, not pages.
SSD’s are good. I don’t think Varnish is effective for these kinds of sites, though. I say this because as far as caching goes, it isn’t the same pages being accessed re…[Read more]

Welcome @remco!
Great to see you jumping right into SerpShaker and taking it live on your market. I know there are a few here playing in various international, and European specifically, markets. Some have tried Asian, but I’ve heard of some character issues arising.
Too bad to hear about your past business, but at least you’ve found so…[Read more]

@jake, you’re able to do that many SL sites on a 16GB machine? I would have thought that running a better php handler would suck some ram.
I could see at least part of that being because most cache’ing to memory is fairly useless since many requests are unique, as are the queries?
My baby 4 core has been getting womped by google lately, s…[Read more]

Andrew, hire on some more talent and give the rockstar a break! He has to eat, sleep, fly to meetings, and code.
Or we could make it more interesting and balance a plate on his head and make him juggle, all the while riding a unicycle and still accomplishing all of the aforementioned tasks.
Also, send him off to the warm coast for a week o…[Read more]

tim posted in the topic Proper Anchor Text Diversification in the forum SEO 9 years, 9 months ago
I have done this in the past, although I’m not doing it at the moment. I deal with a lot of local clients, so throwing a PBN link or two their way is about all that is needed after solid optimization. As a result, often times diversification isn’t needed because they already have a natural link profile that you’re just adding a few links…[Read more]

10 Spikes for every one point? Works for me! :p
I do think that creative ways to put the points to use is a great idea. The forum here seems to come and go as far as how often it is used. Although, I do suspect that the chat feature has a lot to do with it – I know that I wind up using it most often. I do love it, I just wish there was a b…[Read more]

I can’t say I’d go back to SeNuke after GSA. SeNuke is super footprint-y (with the limited targets). At least GSA can be configured to be less so.
It is only more user friendly because there are less options, more preconfigured in a sense. Which, IMO is bad for SEO – again, footprints, low diversity.
I would check out SERlists GSA SER lists.…[Read more]

tim posted in the topic Shared vs. Dedicated server in the forum General 9 years, 10 months ago
Just to get semantics out of the way, there are 3 primary webserver hosting options:
Shared hosting – Your typical hosting that is around $5/mo. You share resources with others, as a result their issues can effect your site. Your resources are also very limited
VPS – Virtual Private Servers are virtual machines where a certain amount of a…[Read more] -
tim posted in the topic Is it possible to Assault too many pages? in the forum IndexAssault (IA) 9 years, 10 months ago
I’ll have to try some of that – I’m sure the size of sitemap that I’m pinging G with is causing them to wait to touch it.
Another concern of mine is pinging G from the same IP. I wonder if it’s better to have a VPN, or if that isn’t any better since they likely know the IP is from a VPN.

tim posted in the topic 1st post? Can someone review my ss site? in the forum Review Requests 9 years, 10 months ago
Essentially, it should be that once it’s indexed, it will head to its ranking position. What I don’t know is if the sheer size of the site influences rank, which in turn pushes the site up in ranks as it gets further indexed and G realizes how large the site is.
Rankings aren’t the concern – traffic is. Build a site, give it a week or two to…[Read more]

Hey Ben,
Lookup the videos here on using Cloudflare. With CF you can use just one host.

Any thoughts or experiments on a maximum number of pages to assault as a percentage of the whole? In other words, can you nail all of them, or is that a red flag on a 30k site?
I’ve found bot traffic lately is a lot less immediate and unpredictable than it used to be. So, I won’t to see how much it’s my fault versus G up to its antics as usual.

It really comes down to doing the due diligence Matt said and then just building a site and seeing how it does with traffic after you’ve given it some time to index.

Bare in mind that just because G’s keyword planner tool doesn’t say there is traffic doesn’t mean that there isn’t traffic, it’s always been that way. They just don’t track traffic for small fish. On top of which, people search for the same thing in so many variations that it muddies it all too much anyway.
The SS and SerpSpike model is to…[Read more]

In CF you have the option of pausing it. This removes and security or performance benefits you get from CF, but the site is still fully accessible. In my experience there’s no need to pause it for IA, though.
