First site de-indexed in 20 years? That just tells me you’re not trying hard enough.

Seriously though, keep your head up. Clone your site to a new site, same content and all, and try, try again. Sounds like an unlucky fluke probably related to adding mass pages after G had you indexed with a much lesser amount.
