emediaukcom you are correct. A silo built correctly will require far less links. It’s just about seeing how the link juice flows through the site and where it ends up. Proper internal linking will help you control that.

Backlinks are not always backlinks. That being said, 1000 comment backlinks will not perform as well as say 10 backlinks from 10 domains with high domain authority. Backlinks are not needed with SSL.

However if you want to do some just the main page and then 2,3 or 4 ir more than enough.

Your right the size of the site and the silos mean that backlinks are really not necessary.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I don’t know your niche, but I can’t imagine it will be as bad as you think. I agree with David on the point about even if these long tails only get one or two searches a year, you still have such a massive scale that it will add up over time.
