I still use it quite a bit as well as people buying services for epic link boosts (essentially running GSA with a private link list for campaigns for people). It still works greatly for higher tiers delivering juice, you just need to know HOW to use it and where.

You could just leave everything as is and the url footprint will be there BUT when people load your dashboard (domain.com/piwik) you can put up a gateway with a username/password only you know. This will prevent anyone from seeing stuff you dont want them to.
